Born Gladys Smith, Pickford successfully climbed from stage actress to international film star to production executive at United Artists - a company she founded. In true Hollywood style, "America's Sweetheart" also married leading man Douglas Fairbanks, who presented her with an 18-acre estate, Pickfair, in Beverly Hills.
