Who decides when they disagree on issues such as tempo, dynamics and phrasing? How does each keep its individuality, yet complement the other? Conlon shows, through examples of the fiery Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 3, how the collective personality is surrendered to the musical composition. Through losing a sense of self, each participant actually gains a sense of self.
