The fourth part of "News War"looks at media around the globe
,
including the new Arab media and its role in the
clash between the West and Islam, and the dangers journalists
worldwide face - including death, jail and exile - to tell
their stories.
On Tuesday, March 27, FRONTLINE/World will
conclude the "News War" series with a 60-minute report about global
media. In the lead story, "War of Ideas,"correspondent Greg Barker
investigates new Arab media and its role in both mitigating and
exacerbating the clash between the West and Islam. Focusing on Al
Jazeera and how it has changed the face of a once-parochial and
tightly controlled Arab media, Barker reports on Al Jazeera's
growing influence around the world.
The second story, "Requiem,"pays tribute to reporters from
across the globe who have been killed, jailed or exiled for daring
to speak truth to power. Last year was one of the deadliest
years on record for journalists, and most did not die in
combat. They were deliberately targeted, hunted down and
murdered, often in their homes or offices, for investigating
corruption, crime or human rights abuses. As the need for fair and
accurate news coverage increases, FRONTLINE/World
looks at the dangers journalists confront to tell their
stories.
FRONTLINE correspondent Lowell Bergman interviews key figures in
print and electronic press for FRONTLINE's "News War"series.
