Singer-songwriter Lovett has long mixed elements of jazz, blues and pop into his unique country sound. Cullum, a 24-year-old from England, is working to change contemporary jazz music in the States by infusing the genre with rock and dance sounds.
Big, innovative bands take center stage as the Polyphonic Spree perform followed by the Grammy-winning Ozomatli. With more than 20 members attired in colorful choir robes, the Polyphonic Spree have built a following based on their energetic live performances and their lush, transcendent pop epics. Ozomatli, a 10-piece Los Angeles-based group, meshes traditional Latin rhythms with modern hip-hop, blending in Middle Eastern and African beats to make music as diverse as the band's line-up.
From rockin'punk to heartbreaking ballads, Elvis Costello's musical diversity runs parallel with that of AUSTIN CITY LIMITS. Showcasing his intelligent lyrics and genre-jumping style, Costello and the Imposters perform songs from The Delivery Man, plus a few classics.
For more than 10 years Modest Mouse has been creating genre-blending, folk-tinged indie-rock that has brought them legions of diehard fans, but in 2004, with the help of their single "Float On,"the band has gone from cult-following to MTV-staple. After 20-plus years and an equal number of albums, EPs and singles, lo-fi indie-rock innovators Guided by Voices are calling it quits. AUSTIN CITY LIMITS captures the band during their final tour, performing songs from their CD, Half Smiles of the Decomposed.
