James Conlon and Menahem Pressler explore two approaches to the performance of great music: Plato's inside-out approach and Aristotle's bottom-to-top methods of discovery.
In this philosophical journey through the process of re-creating
great art, James Conlon and Menahem Pressler explore two approaches
to the performance of great music: Plato's inside-out approach and
Aristotle's bottom-to-top methods of discovery from source to
product and from product to source. The program provides a look
back at the Twelfth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition,
held in Fort Worth, Texas, in the spring of 2005. Musical excerpts
and rehearsals feature Alexander Kobrin and the Takács
Quartet.
