This series, featuring renowned conductor James Conlon and the six
finalists of the Twelfth Van Cliburn International Piano
Competition held in Fort Worth, Texas, in the spring of 2005,
explores the relationship between the concert pianist's internal
world and the composer's score. The primary focus is Maestro
Conlon's insights into what makes one interpretation so different
from another. The programs reveal the different sources of
inspiration by contrasting concepts such as tradition or
innovation; technique or spirit; Apollo or Dionysus; Plato or
Aristotle; "play it" or "be it"; and beauty or truth.
