President and Mrs. Obama host this music special in the East Room of the White House. Performances by Tessanne Chin, Melissa Etheridge, Aretha Franklin, Ariana Grande, Patti LaBelle, Janelle Monáe and Jill Scott pay homage to the great “foremothers” of music, with songs expressing the struggles and the achievements of women in American music. The evening celebrates American women artists whose work has left an indelible and profound impact on our national musical culture, across blues, jazz, soul, rhythm and blues and rock and roll.
