Explore how medical researchers, physicians, cost-conscious
insurance companies and medical schools are changing the way
medicine is practiced in America.
This follow-up to the HEALING AND THE MIND looks at extraordinary
changes taking place in the field of "integrative medicine." When
HEALING AND THE MIND aired in 1993, "mind-body medicine" and
alternative therapies - from acupuncture to visualization to
meditation - were on the fringes of the U.S. health-care system.
Today the field is exploding, fueled by a growing body of hard
research data and consumer demand, and led by pioneering doctors
who understand the mind-body connection and the need to treat the
whole person, not just the illness. This program explores how
medical researchers, physicians, cost-conscious insurance companies
and medical schools are changing the way medicine is practiced in
America. Host Dana Reeve, widow of Christopher Reeve and herself a
cancer patient, speaks eloquently about her belief in the healing
power of "the new medicine."
Hosting THE NEW MEDICINE was one of the last projects that
Dana Reeve undertook before she died of lung cancer. THE NEW
MEDICINE aired in memoriam to Reeve.
